Mid 1999 to present:  If you're not familiar with RTE1 idents then skip ahead and watch the next one first - it is subtly incorporated into this one.   It's hard to see as the quality is a bit poor - if the video tape it was recorded on was a person it would be going to college soon.  The end of a trailer for The Late Late Show is on this video clip.  And if you've ever wondered why the evening news begins at a minute past six it's because the station calls the country to a national minute of prayer at 6:00pm.  I kid you not, watch this video for a 2002 preview 326kb and this video for a 1998 preview 186kb.

Late 1998 to mid 1999:    Released during September 1998 this logo is more dramatic than the logo it replaced (below) but was still based on a water covered background. There were a few variations of this logo.  Thanks to Stephen Livingston who very kindly recorded four Network 2 and this RTE1 logo from Northern Ireland and sent them to me in Australia.

Early 1998:    This version of the RTE1 logo lasted until September 1998. The St. Bridget Cross makes a ghostly appearance much as it did in earlier logos, here appearing in a cloud of fog at the beginning and then drifting out of sight.  This was the only ident used at the time so it must have been a bit boring to see it again and again.

Mid 1990's:   The St. Bridget Cross has appeared in many RTE1 logos. In this version it sweeps across the chiseled rockface from top right to bottom left before "RTE" appears in the centre.

Late 1980's:   No Bridget Cross in this "desert" ident.  RTE stuck with the music to this ident when they made the next one.  This logo is also presented thanks to Stephen Livingston.

1986: Thanks to Richard Logue for this one. The St. Bridget Cross is resting in the "T" in the centre image. It folds out to become the "1" at the end of the animation. Many thanks to Richard for sending the video of this and other idents to me in Australia from England.
