Hmmm! To be honest, the jury is
still out on the first batch of idents from the ABC using their new
reflective metal tube logo, they're
a bit clunky really. There are a few variants, with different music, different coloured
backgrounds etc., but all resolving to the shape in the third picture
above, and all ending with the three note ABC jingle. Here are the
"green" and "yellow" idents.
A Balloon
ident, where'd they get that idea? This was
quite a nice logo but the music was not designed for RealVideo format. This series
of logos all ended with the three ABC note jingle being made from
something related to the film clip - in this case the sound of three
balloons popping in tune with the jingle. The first file here is a combination of idents similar to
the "balloon" ident, the second is the complete
"fashion" ident from the same series.
This era of black & white idents all showed a clip
of Australians scuba diving or dancing or painting boats or playing in a
playground or playing a musical instrument (as in the capture above) or whatever,
ending
with one of the people tracing out the logo in the mid air in front of them. The logo they
trace is added to the film afterwards. The first video is a combination of
several idents, the second is a navy ident made abord the HMAS Brisbane.
This
ABC fishing boat ident comes from around about 1991. It one of a
series of idents, but the only other one I can remember is a hand
holding on to a hand-strap in a train. I'm not sure if the entire
series were along the same lines, but if anyone in Australia has more
examples from this series please let me know.

ABC is the most accessible TV channel in Australia. Known to some as
"Aunty", it is commercial free and is often accused of being politically biased.
