426kb     From the "X" era. Great thanks to Simon Joplin and Michael Costello for these and 4 of the following idents.  1988

390kb     An earlier example from the "X" era. (Thanks again Simon and Michael).  1987

390kb     A Paul Mech special, here is a Ten ident I never had the pleasure of seeing live! It fits in with Andrews time line at 1984 (see below). The font looks pretty dated now, but probably looked really good at the time. There were at least three idents based on this logo, this one, the olympic one below and a the "flashy" ident above this one. Thanks Paul :)

.

145kb     The Olympic version of the above ident., another Paul special. Basic but nice. During this olympic games in 1984, Ten Eyewitness News dominated the news ratings, but after the olympics ended, so did the news ratings.

436kb     Now whats going on here? I like this one, but it seems like they had the end bit made first, and spent too much money on it. With no money in the budget they cobbled together the start. The flashy bit at the end seems unconnected with the start.

172kb     TENs bold move to colour. The original TEN Sydney logo just got a make-over for the introduction of colour in 1975. It seems that the logo basically stayed the same for something like 16 years (if you have more details please contact me), the sign of a great logo.

154kb     The first, original, in glorious black and white, animated ident used for the opening of Channel 10 Sydney in 1965. Thanks again to Paul Mech for this and the above three idents. Just imagine, you are watching on a black and white television in 1965, there are only three channels to choose form, no satellite TV, and a new channel, Channel 10, is begining its first transmission. This ident must have looked fantastic. It still looks great, given it was created in 1965 (before I was born even!) Thanks again Paul !

.

229kb     Combo ident time. A special thanks to Channel 10 for preparing this ident, shown during their 30th anniversary show back in 1995 (can't thank you enough Paul for sending these ident to me). Included here are snips from the two "X" idents (were there more than two?) and the "flashy" TEN ident. There are 12 idents in this comination. Sadly, only 5 are shown in full on this site :(

Now for some details on when and where 10 logos were used, with thanks to Andrew Bayley for sending me not only the logos but all of the information regarding them. These logos are pre 1991, and therefore pre my time in this wonderful country. Thanks again Andrew.

The original TEN-10 Sydney logo.  Actually this was a revised version of the original logo, which I think used a different font for the "TEN".  I do not know when this revised version kicked in, probably early 70's.  (TEN-10 began in 1965).

ATV-0 Melbourne from circa 1974 to 1980, including the "First In Color" slogan. (Colour TV officially started in March 1975

January 1980. ATV-0 becomes ATV-10.  The 0-10 Network becomes known nationally as Network TEN (although the Brisbane station is still broadcasting on TVQ-0)

June 1984. ATV-10 and SAS-10 (Adelaide) adopt the TEN-10 Sydney logo as the national Network TEN logo.  (TVQ-0 maintains a separate logo, known as "TV0")

January 1988.  The new "X" logo.  Also adopted by NEW-10 Perth when it begins transmission in May 1988, and TVQ-10 Brisbane when it transfers from TVQ-0 in September.  Adopted also by regional affiliate "Capital Television" in Canberra/Southern NSW.

July 1989.  10 TV Australia.  Also adopted by regional affiliate "Capital 10 TV Australia"

You will need to have RealPlayer to play the above movies.
